Garden Rhapsody is the nightly light-and-sound performance at Supertree Grove in Gardens by the Bay, Singapore. Instead of a stage, the show uses the Supertrees themselves: their illuminated canopies and trunks change in time with music played throughout the grove. It is an outdoor performance designed to be watched from within or around the cluster of Supertrees.
Garden Rhapsody Schedule
Daily, performances are scheduled at 7:45 PM and 8:45 PM.
When Garden Rhapsody Runs
Garden Rhapsody follows a regular evening schedule at Supertree Grove. The current performance pattern is shown in the schedule information for the attraction, while special events or temporary operating changes can occasionally affect access to the surrounding area.
The musical program is not permanently tied to one soundtrack. Gardens by the Bay rotates themed editions of Garden Rhapsody during the year, pairing different music selections with specially choreographed lighting sequences. Seasonal programs and event-related editions may therefore look and sound different from a previous visit even though the attraction remains Garden Rhapsody.
The show operates year-round.
How the Supertrees Become the Show
Supertree Grove contains 12 of Gardens by the Bay’s 18 Supertrees. The structures rise as high as 50 metres, so Garden Rhapsody works on a much larger vertical scale than a conventional ground-level light display. Lighting spreads through the trunks and broad canopies while the music is distributed around the grove.
The Supertrees are also living vertical gardens rather than decorative lighting towers alone. Their planting panels support bromeliads, orchids, ferns and tropical flowering climbers. After dark, those planted structures become the physical setting for the synchronized lighting sequences.
Gardens by the Bay states that 68 independent audio speakers are used during Garden Rhapsody. Spreading the sound around the grove makes the performance less dependent on a single front-facing stage, which is useful to understand when choosing where to stand.
The show’s creative direction has also developed over time. Gardens by the Bay identifies lighting designer Adrian Tan and composer and arranger Bang Wenfu as leading its overall creative vision since 2015. The changing musical programs give the lighting choreography room to vary rather than repeating one fixed sequence throughout the year.
Where to Watch at Supertree Grove
The show can be watched from ground level within Supertree Grove. A position close to the structures emphasizes their height and the illuminated canopies overhead, while standing farther toward the edge of the grove gives more room to see several Supertrees together.
Because the sound is distributed around the area, there is no conventional audience section facing a single stage. That also means visitors can choose a position according to what they want to see: the scale of one Supertree from below, a broader group of illuminated structures, or a composition that includes part of the surrounding Marina Bay skyline.
Viewing Tip
Allow some time to enter Supertree Grove and choose a comfortable position before the performance begins. The open viewing area can become busier around evening programs and special events.
Viewing is listed as free admission.
Garden Rhapsody itself is presented in Supertree Grove rather than requiring admission to the OCBC Skyway or Supertree Observatory. Those elevated attractions have their own access arrangements. Gardens by the Bay also notes that admission conditions for Supertree Grove can differ during separately ticketed events.
Access Note
Wheelchairs, including motorised wheelchairs, and seated mobility scooters are permitted within Gardens by the Bay. Visitors who need mobility assistance should use the current Gardens accessibility and amenities information when planning their route through the grounds.
Reaching Supertree Grove for the Evening Show
Supertree Grove is inside Gardens by the Bay’s Bay South Garden, near Singapore’s Marina Bay area. Two MRT approaches listed by Gardens by the Bay are useful for visitors arriving by public transport.
- Bayfront MRT Station (CE1/DT16): use Exit B, follow the underground linkway, then continue into Gardens by the Bay via the Dragonfly Bridge or Meadow Bridge.
- Gardens by the Bay MRT Station (TE22): Exit 1 leads into Gardens by the Bay beside the Satay by the Bay area.
Gardens by the Bay covers a large outdoor area, so reaching the Gardens and reaching Supertree Grove are not the same thing. Build walking time into an evening visit rather than treating the MRT exit as the show location.
Drivers can also use Gardens by the Bay’s parking facilities, but parking locations, charges and access arrangements are more likely to change than the physical location of the grove. The official getting-here information provides the current parking details.
