Bucharest’s Symphony of Water is the multimedia night program at the Urban Fountains in Piața Unirii, combining choreographed water jets with lighting, music, and projected imagery. The fountain installation extends along Bulevardul Unirii rather than being confined to a single basin, which gives the display a much wider physical scale than a conventional city fountain show.

Current Program

Current status: Suspended.

When Symphony of Water Runs

No regular schedule is currently listed.

Symphony of Water has used seasonal evening schedules, and start times have changed during past operating periods as daylight conditions shifted through the warmer months. That makes the active schedule for your intended date more useful than an older timetable saved from a previous season.

The program takes place outdoors, so operating conditions can occasionally affect a scheduled performance. Performances are officially suspended for the duration of the rehabilitation project.

How the Fountain System Creates the Show

The Piața Unirii installation contains 44 independently controlled fountains distributed over roughly 1.4 kilometers along Bulevardul Unirii. A digital control system allows individual parts of the fountain complex to be coordinated, making large synchronized water patterns possible across the installation.

The central fountain adds another layer to the production. Four water screens are integrated into it and face different directions, providing surfaces for video and laser projection. During themed editions of Symphony of Water, these projection elements have been combined with music, illuminated jets, and changing water choreography.

The fountains were extensively rehabilitated in 2018. The modernization retained the existing urban setting while adding the equipment used for digitally controlled fountain effects and multimedia performances.

Choosing a Viewing Position in Piața Unirii

Because the fountain system stretches along a long section of the boulevard, there is no single viewing position that presents every element in exactly the same way. A position with more distance from the nearest jets gives you more room to follow the wider choreography, while standing closer emphasizes individual water movements and lighting effects.

If projected imagery is an important part of the program you want to see, a clear line of sight toward the central fountain is useful because that is where the four water screens are installed. The physical scale of the fountain line also means it is worth allowing a little time to choose a position rather than arriving exactly at the listed start.

The fountains are in the Piața Unirii area of central Bucharest, along Bulevardul Unirii. Access arrangements around the square can change during major works or event operations, so the current show status should be considered before planning an evening specifically around the display.
